Sustainable Water Infrastructure

FLOW encourages citizens and governments to support sustainable water and wastewater infrastructure as part of our work in securing a Blueprint for Canada that sustains the essence of freshwater resources for the use and enjoyment of all Canadians (see Our Vision).

What does infrastructure that supports sustainable water management look like?

Managing our water sustainably means developing water and wastewater infrastructure that focuses less on expensive and energy-intensive pipes and pumps and more on approaches that encourage efficient use of water and energy, ensure safe water for all, produce long term economic benefits, and protect and restore freshwater ecosystems. At a minimum, governments should require comprehensive conservation programs as a requirement for any water or wastewater infrastructure grants.
