Our History

The history of the Forum for Leadership on Water (FLOW) is a short one, but a number of organizations and people have played a key role in its development, demonstrating the importance of and commitment to this initiative.

Gordon Water Group

FLOW is the permanent initiative that emerged from the Gordon Water Group of Concerned Scientists and Citizens. Individuals in the Gordon Water Group first came together out of deep concern for Canada’s escalating water crisis in 2006 when they began to write the report, Changing the Flow: A Blueprint for Federal Action on Freshwater. With the release of this report in October 2007, the authors felt that it was important for them to continue to be a voice for a Canada-wide water strategy. In September 2008, the Walter and Duncan Gordon Foundation provided funding to create the Forum for Leadership on Water (FLOW) to carry on this important work.
